The 2023 Chester 7s tournament was a step far for an injury-ravaged Scimitar Storm, despite an unbeaten run to the Grand Final.
A young Scimitar Storm side put on an impressive display to top the round robin league at Winnington Park RFC for Chester 7s this weekend, with a notable victory over the Akuma Rugby Agents. The side showed tremendous resilience to knock up four wins from four on the day, with some stand-out performances from Rorio Zheng and some scintillating scores from Dan Hamilton-Strong ensured our place was cemented in the grand final at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, this was proved to be one step too far, as an injury-depleted Storm side came up short at the final hurdle to an experienced Akuma Rugby Agents side brimming with talent. Storm’s coaching team, however, were thrilled with the efforts of the young side at Chester 7s, and were delighted to see the team turn over some experienced sides and make it to the final.
There’s no resting here though, as next weekend the Storm are straight back to it at the Heart Of Wales 7s Festival. There’s some tough-looking fixtures, with Storm’s group containing Preseli BaBas, MET and 2 Yorks Veilomani, while the tournament also features the likes of Butchers 7s, Samurai and British Army amongst other experienced sides.
The Heart of Wales 7s event takes place at Llanidloes Rugby Club between 30th June & 2nd July, with a full roster of sports to watch and multiple camping experiences available to purchase. You can find out more about the event, and book tickets, by clicking here.
