Discover Our Favourite Picturesque Marathons in the UK

Thinking of taking part in a marathon that offers a more scenic view of the city’s hustle and bustle? We have decided to put together our top 5 favourite picturesque marathons in the United Kingdom.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it.

We start first with our top marathon, up at the number one spot, we have the Brecon Beacons Marathon. This gruelling race offers some of the most beautiful views in Wales as you head along the Taff Trail and over to the Cambrian Way with spectacular views of the highest peak in Wales, Pen-y-Fan.

Next up, coming in at a close second we have the Loch Ness Marathon. This 26.2-mile race is located in the tranquil Scottish Highlands. The marathon is highly rated by the running community as one of the UK’s most attractive marathons. Alongside the marathon, you even have the chance to spot the famous Loch Ness Monster, although we can’t promise that this would make the race any more picturesque.

In third place, we have the Eryri Marathon. If you fancy running at the foot of a mountain, then this is the ideal marathon for you. Formerly known as the Snowdonia Marathon, the race takes you on a course around the footprint of the mountain, maintaining a healthy distance away from the peak that reaches 1085 meters above.

Coming up next in the fourth position we have the Kielder Marathon. Taking place on the outskirts of Kielder Water, the largest man-made lake in the United Kingdom. With the route taking place nearly entirely off-road, it allows you to take in the environment, consisting of lush woodland, open fields, and plenty of climbing.

Lastly, in our top five, we have the Yorkshire Marathon. As an extremely popular marathon for those runners who are chasing that next personal best, the Yorkshire Marathon route takes runners through some of York’s historic landmarks. As a level yet picturesque marathon, it allows participants to run along scenic country lanes with the highest point of the race being only 40 meters above sea level.
