Guinness World Record Attempt at London Marathon

Who ya gonna call?
A group of six charity runners from across the UK are putting themselves through their paces for a Ghostbusters themed Guinness World Record at this year’s Virgin London Marathon 2018.
Scimitar were delighted to help out this venture with a set of Ghostbusters-style technical clothing for the runners to wear on the day of the event.

WORLD RECORD

Setting World Records isn’t exactly new for this team. Four members of the team previously held the Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest marathon in a five-person costume’ achieved at last year’s Virgin Money London Marathon 2017.
Last year, they dressed as Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine and are in this year’s Guinness World Record’s book that is lining the shelves in over 100 countries around the world. This year they are back with a brand new record attempt and with two new team members. With last year’s mystery solved, the team have answered the call for a new mission and will be running through the streets of London as the iconic ‘Ghostbusters’ in an attempt to banish ghosts (cancer) once and for all.

THE TEAM

Each taking a character from the famous Ghostbusters franchise, the team comprises of people from all the over the UK, who have all been affected by cancer. The group who now ‘feel like family’ met running the London Marathon in 2016 and stayed in touch via Facebook.
The team said “We can’t quite believe where it’s taken us from just speaking on Facebook, it’s a special group and feels like being a part of another family. You gradually learn other people’s story and why they run and you realise the scale of what the charity do and how many people its affected. It’s this that has become the motivation behind everything we do”.
The ‘Ghostbusters’ will be attempting to achieve a Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest marathon in a six-person costume’ by carrying their own version of the legendary Ecto car, all the way around the 26.2 mile course.
As we write this, the fundraising effort stands at an unbelievable £11,909.16. To sponsor the team with their event and to help them raise as much money as possible, click here to visit the Just Giving team page.
