For the second successive year, we’re delighted to be supplying the official cycling jerseys & merchandise for the Nightrider events.
With three events spanning Glasgow in May, Liverpool in June & London in July, the Nightrider series is a charity cycle ride on closed roads. Debuting in 2010, the event has seen over 17,000 participants take on the challenge.
Choosing from a 50km or a 100km route, it’s important to stress that this isn’t timed and is not a race. It’s a platform for individuals & teams to band together and raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Let me put this into context for you. For those fundraisers taking part in the 100km, this equates to roughly 62 miles. For first-time charity riders, this is a daunting number
Can’t visualise the distance fundraisers will be travelling? Okay, let’s take a look at where you’d end up if you cycled 62 miles in a straight line from the three starting points.
62 miles would be the straight-line distance from Glasgow to Lockerbie, leaving you just 14 miles north of the English border.
It’s also the distance from Stratford in London to the town of Ipswich in Suffolk, Folkestone in Kent or Northampton in the East Midlands.
Finally, a straight 62 miles would get you from Pier Head in Liverpool to Leeds in Yorkshire, Barmouth on the west coast in Wales or even down to the West Midlands, 6 miles from the centre of Wolverhampton.
It’s quite a way, basically.
What are the best things about the event? Nightrider is a fully-supported (medical & mechanical backup) event, with break stops & a half-way tea/cake buffet. The premise of the event isn’t on competition; it’s to raise as much money as possible for the charities of the individuals taking part.
The dates & starting points for this year’s Nightrider are as follows:
- TBC, Glasgow (19th-20th May)
- Lee Valley VeloPark, Stratford, London (9th-10th June)
- Pier Head, Liverpool (14th-15th July)
