Patrick Traylor remains a man on a mission.
The Scot, who lives in Salisbury, is now a quarter of the way into his Project52 challenge for 2022, whereby he is aiming to complete an amazing 52 events in 52 weeks throughout the year – all in aid of Youth Sport Trust.
After kicking off his calendar with friends on New Year’s Day with a Park Run in Edinburgh, Patrick completed UK Running Events’ 15km Resolution Run in Hampshire before a 5km Itchen Valley Country Park run.
Following a 5-miler in Romsey where he finished in the top 8%, the end of January saw Patrick take on a double-header due to competition date changes over the Saturday and Sunday, with a 20km race around the New Forest and a 10km at Longleat.
February
February saw Patrick complete four events, beginning with a 5km Park Run in Southampton Common and a 10-miler in Wiltshire. Next up was an impressive 10km in Winchester where Patrick was joined by five friends, all running in his custom-made shirts by Scimitar, and he finished in the top 11% with an impressive time of 44 minutes.
Patrick ended the month with Blended Trails’ Hard Yards 10-miler in Hampshire, again supported by friends on a very undulating 10 miles through scenic farmland and forests.
March
March saw the Scotsman complete three events, with a testing 20-miler in Hullavington to kick off the month, having not run more than 20km in over two years! He finished with a very respectable time (2h 55m), coming 33rd in a field of 72.
March 20th saw him compete in his first multisport race of the year and with the weather on his side, Patrick was joined by a few friends and finished in a fantastic 12th out of 60 with a combined time of 2h 18m. And his 13th event of the year saw a trip up to Scotland where he enjoyed a sharp Park Run, finishing 36th out of 199.
With another 39 events to go in 2022, Patrick still has a long way to go on his journey. From park runs to ultra marathons and sprint triathlons to adventure triathlons, he has many other various endurance challenges throughout the year as he looks to raise vital funds for Youth Sport Trust – whose mission is to provide sport and physical activity opportunities to all children.
Background
Patrick, who is a paediatric physiotherapist working at Salisbury District Hospital, said: “Daily inactivity causes serious issues for personal health and wellbeing and by partaking in these events, my aim is to raise awareness of this nationally. Unfortunately, 55% of children don’t achieve their recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity and I hope by raising money for YST, this will go some way to reduce this number.
“I was very fortunate to have access to sport from a very young age and this has provided me with incredible opportunities and experiences. I genuinely feel there is a sport or activity out there for every child, some just haven’t been given the opportunity to find it yet.
“With the support from Scimitar, I’m not only going to be looking the part but friends/family will be able to wear the brilliant kit alongside me and get involved in many races along the way.”
