As the new seasons start, we’re back with our weekly rugby round-ups for all things Scimitar.
While not all of the Scimitar teams were in action we have plenty of good results to share. So with this in mind, let’s take a look below.
We start this week’s round-up by heading over to Worcester in the Counties 1 Midlands (South) division as we had a Scimitar derby on our hands with Worcester RFC facing off against Barkers Butts. In a tough, fought-out game, Barkers Butts went a man down after a yellow card, opening the door to Worcester who won the derby 29-5 and got their campaign off to a winning start. Barkers Butts on the other hand will look to reflect on the performance and bounce back next weekend.
Elsewhere in the midlands leagues, Scimitar had Hereford RFC in action in the Regional 2 Midlands West against Shipston on Stour while Woodrush faced off against Bourneville II in the Midlands Division. Both teams struggled to gain a foothold in their games leading to Woodrush losing 5-48 while Hereford missed out with the game finishing 26-12. While the results didn’t go their way, both teams will look to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger this week as they return to league action.
There was a return to be made last weekend as Rotherham Titans debuted in the National League 1 after their hugely successful 2023/24 campaign in the National League North. Rotherham displayed a fantastic overall performance as they beat Rosslyn Park at Clifton Lane 31-21 thanks to tries from Luke Cole, John Okafor, and Callum Bustin, while Lloyd Hayes added the rest from the tee.
Chipstead RFC also kicked off the season in the Counties 2 Surrey with a win last weekend. Chipstead fought off a strong Kingston RFC team to win the game 31-19 thanks to five tries scored with three of those being converted. Chipstead will now look to push on in their next fixture this weekend and hold on to that top spot on the table.
Finally this week we head over to the Memorial Recreational Ground as South Gower RFC travelled to face Bryncoch RFC away from home. South Gower performed well throughout as the promoted side looked to make a positive first impression. The game ended with a 20-24 win for South Gower as it rounded off a great afternoon for the side who will hope it’s the first of many wins in League 3 West Central this year.
While that’s the round-up from last week, we have plenty of exciting fixtures on the horizon, scroll down for more.
