It was a mixture of results last week for the Scimitar rugby teams in action across the English and Welsh leagues.

It was a mixture of results last week for Scimitar rugby teams in action across the English and Welsh leagues.

We start this by heading over to the Gnoll, as Llandovery travelled to face bottom side Neath. The Drovers maintained their fine form as they executed another dominant win to protect their lead at the top of the Indigo Welsh Premiership with the game finishing 10-47. That takes their record to a remarkable 18-1 this season.

Llandovery have a week off to prepare for 2nd March where they face fellow Scimitar-wearing side Ebbw Vale at the Talbot Athletic Ground in the Indigo Premiership Cup Semi-Final.

Talking of Ebbw Vale, they were also in action as they faced a talented Bridgend side in a crucial fixture after dropping down to third. It was good news for the Steelmen fans as they turned up well-prepared! Despite Bridgend tallying 14 points, it was Ebbw Vale’s game to win as the game finished 13-36.

Pontypridd should be well rested and ready to go as they are set to return to league action at Sardis Road on the 29th of February as they face Newport.

Over in the National League 2 North last week we saw Rotherham Titans take on local rivals Sheffield at Clifton Lane. In a similar fashion to Ebbw Vale and Llandovery, the Titans secured a dominant win to maintain the nine point gap between them and Leeds Tykes at the top of the leaderboard. With the addition of a bonus point, the game ended 32-14 in Rotherham’s favour.

Looking ahead to the weekend Rotherham will prepare to face a middle-of-the-table Otley side away at Cross Green.

Over in Regional 2 Midlands West division last week, we had both Hereford and Worcester in action. It wasn’t a great weekend for either team with both losing out to their opponents as Worcester were beaten 34-3 by the league leaders and Hereford 35-17 by Mosley Oak.

Both teams will battle for redemption when they return to league action on Saturday the 2nd of March as Hereford face Newent at home while Worcester face Mosely Oak.

There was another Worcester team in action last weekend as Worcester Women faced Buckingham Swans Ladies. It was a day to forget for the Worcester side as they suffered a heavy defeat of 0-56. Despite the loss, they have an excellent opportunity to redeem themselves this Sunday as they are scheduled to face Bishop Auckland Ladies who currently sit 6 points ahead of them.

Elsewhere in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) Barkers Butts faced Coventry Welsh. Barkers slipped up in a tight game that ended with a narrow defeat as the game finished 25-22. Despite the loss, they remain at the top of the league with Veseyans 2 points off in 2nd place.

The team will look to redeem themselves on Saturday the 2nd of March when they face Uttoxeter at home.

Towards the bottom half of the table, we also had Woodrush in action. It wasn’t Woodrush’s day as they suffered a heavy defeat of 60-5. Woodrush will look to return to winning ways on Saturday the 2nd of March as they will prepare to play Claverdon.

It was a narrow defeat for another Scimitar team last weekend as Chipstead faced Old Wimbledonians at home. As the game went all the way to the final whistle it was Chipstead that missed out on the points as they were beaten 15-17 by the travelling team.

Chipstead will look to climb up the table to third this weekend as they face 2nd place Old Rutlishians away from home.

Finally, we head over to the BUCS Super Rugby league as Swansea University travelled to face Bath. In a game filled with action and tries it was Bath that ultimately came out as victors, narrowly beating Swansea 50-40. Despite the loss, Swansea should see the positives in their scoring ability as they move on to their next fixture in round 16, against Leeds Beckett.
