Rugby Round-Up: Week 23

It was a week of rugby to remember as Llandovery RFC put on a monstrous performance at the Talbot Athletic Ground to eliminate Ebbw Vale and make it to the Welsh Premiership Cup Final, while Rotherham Titans added another away victory to their perfect tally so far this season.

We start this week’s rugby round-up by heading to the Talbot Athletic Ground for an all Scimitar semi-final between Ebbw Vale and Llandovery in the Premiership Cup.

Llandovery rose to the occasion to put on a performance of pure class against the Steelmen as they outscored them six tries to one thanks to a brace of tries from Jac Davies. Loan Huges converted four of the possible six with the game finishing 43-7 in Llandovery’s favour to send them crashing into the final.

There was another Welsh Premiership team In action last week as Pontypridd RFC welcomed Newport to Sardis Road. Newport got off the mark quickly as fullback Jac Lloyd dotted down after the 10-minute mark. Unfortunately for Ponty, this marked a bombardment of tries that damaged their hopes of a win with a massive comeback needed in the second half.

Unfortunately for Pontypridd, the comeback never came as the game finished 10-45 to mark a disappointing evening. Ponty will look to return to winning ways upon their return to league action as they drop down to 7th after a win from Pontypool RFC.

Over to Yorkshire now for National 2 North, where it was another impressive win for Rotherham Titans as they travelled to come up against a Huddersfield side that have struggled to find points so far this season.

The Titans won the game 12-31 to add another away victory to their tally for the season while the points are vital in maintaining the gap between themselves in second and Leeds Tykes in first.

Despite Hereford having a rest week, it turned out to be an exciting week in the Regional 2 Midlands West as Worcester claimed a hard-fought 17-17 draw against a Moseley Oak side that are looking to finish the season in the top four. The result will hopefully bring Worcester some confidence as they prepare for their last few games of the season.

Barkers Butts had another boost in their bid to top the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) last weekend as they were awarded an HWO to remain two points clear of Veseyans on 82 points. Elsewhere, in the league, Woodrush were unfortunate to lose out to Claverdon as they were narrowly beaten 26-32. Woodrush have a challenge on their hands this weekend as they travel to face a dangerous Veseyans side at home.

Over in Counties 2 Surrey last weekend we had Chipstead in search of some vital points on the road as they travelled to face Old Whitgiftian. Chipstead battled through the game to take a narrow win against an impressive side on the day with it finishing 30-34.

Chipstead will have their fingers crossed for Old Caterhamians to drop points as they are just one point ahead of them in third place.

Finally, we head over to Leeds Beckett for the 16th round of the BUCs Super League as Swansea University were in hope for some points to lift them from the bottom of the table.

Unfortunately for Swansea, it just wasn’t their fixture as Leeds Beckett snatched the win from them with the game ending 22-7.
