Rugby Round-Up: Week 24

It was another scintillating week of rugby for Scimitar teams with Pontypridd, Llandovery, Rotherham and more in action. We start this week’s rugby round-up, however, at Pontypool Park as Llandovery travelled to face Pontypool RFC.

The Drovers started quickly, blowing away Pontypool in the first half to put the game to bed early on. Llandovery secured the points as Pontypool couldn’t handle the reigning Welsh Premiership Champions with the game ending 26-48 to the Drovers.

Elsewhere in the league, Pontypridd were in action as they travelled to the St Helens Ground to face Swansea RFC. Ponty returned to winning ways thanks to a brace of tries from wingers Niko Matawalu and Tom Edwards. After a frantic first half, it was Ponty who pushed ahead thanks to a decisive penalty from Josh Phillips with the game finishing 22-30 in Pontypridd’s favour.

Back over in England and National 2 North, Scimitar had Rotherham Titans in action against Hull Ionians at Clifton Lane. Rotherham demonstrated another fine display of rugby yet again as they demolished Hull Ionians 42-17 in a classic style.

Despite the opposition tallying a total of 17, it was Rotherham’s game as they continue to put pressure on the league leaders Leeds Tykes in their pursuit of the top spot at the business end of the season.

There was joy elsewhere in the Regional 2 Midlands West division last week as Hereford narrowly defeated a strong Newent side. Hereford dealt Newent their 5th defeat of the season with an 11-8 win. The win means that Hereford are now placed 7th on the table with Stratford Upon Avon only 2 points ahead in 6th as they look to build from the result.

Lastly, we finish up this week’s round-up by heading over Swansea University as they faced Loughborough at home. Swansea battled throughout the game with them tallying a total score of 17. However, unfortunately for Swansea, it just wasn’t their night as a strong Loughborough side went on to win the game 17-31.

Now that might be the end of this week’s round-up, but we do have some exciting games coming this weekend with teams in action across the English and Welsh leagues.
