Rugby Round-Up: Week 30

There was a huge result in Yorkshire as Rotherham leapfrogged Leeds Tykes to go top of the National 2 North ahead of their penultimate game of the season, while Ebbw Vale and Llandovery walk away with wins.

We start this week’s rugby round-up by heading over to South Yorkshire as the Titans travelled to face rivals Sheffield Tigers at Dore More.

The Titans were tested yet again despite taking an early lead with Sheffield proving to be a formidable opponent on the day. Rotherham showed a true winning mentality as they overcame the challenge to finish the game 14-36 with an all-important bonus point.

Promotion is now in the sights for Rotherham as a win against Billingham this weekend would seal their fate and see the team go back up to National One after a 3-year stint in the National 2 North league.

Elsewhere Llandovery were in action against Swansea as they looked for more points in pursuit of Newport at the top of the table. Llandovery displayed another fine performance to win the game 54-21 thanks to tries from Harry Thomas, Berian Watkins, Lee Rees, Kian Abraham, Taylor Davies, and Dafydd Land, while Jack Maynard added the rest from the tee.

The win means that the Drovers are now just 4 points behind Newport ahead of their final game against Bridgend on Thursday the 25th of April.

Another Scimitar team rounded off their season last week as Ebbw Vale finished on a high as they beat 6th place Pontypool 16-10 at the Ciner Glass Community Stadium. The Steelmen had already secured their position before the game but the win will fill them with confidence ahead of the playoffs.

There was more knockout rugby last weekend as Barkers Butts and Chipstead were both in action. Despite making it through to round 2 of the Counties 2 Championship, Barkers Butts gifted their opponents Veseyans an AWO to exit the competition and see Veseyans progress to round 3.

Elsewhere Chipstead were in action in round 2 of the Counites 2 South Plate. Chipstead rose to the occasion and dominated the game as they beat Uckfield 18-44. The win means that Chipstead will now progress to the quarter-finals as they return home to face Old Wimbledonians on Saturday the 27th of April.

That’s it for this week’s round-up but don’t forget to follow Scimitar Rugby for all the latest results, news, competitions, and chatter!
