Pontypridd reach Welsh Cup semi-finals
Seven of our teams were in action at the weekend with some impressive wins across both England and Wales.
Pontypridd secured a 24-5 win at Aberavon to fire themselves into the Welsh Premiership Cup semi-finals, thanks to two Dale Stuckey tries and 14 points from the boot of Ben Burnell. The result saw them top Group B.
Llandovery almost joined them in the semi-finals after a tense 19-16 win over Cardiff in Group D, but it wasn’t quite enough to send them through as they finished a point behind Cardiff who qualified for the last four.
Ebbw Vale fell to a 35-17 defeat at RGC in Group A, as the hosts also made the semi-finals.
In National 2 North, Rotherham Titans picked up a narrow 26-21 win over Chester, seeing the Clifton Lane-based side sit 5th in the table. This Saturday will see the Titans travel to Preston Grasshoppers as they look to fight their way back towards the top of the pile.
In London & SE Division – Counties 2 Surrey, Chipstead RFC lost ground on Teddington at the top as they were forced to settle for a thrilling 22-22 draw at Old Amplefordians. They are now eight points from the top ahead of next weekend’s home game with Old Freemens.
In Regional 2 West Midlands, both Hereford and Worcester suffered defeats at Whitchurch (41-0) and at home to table-topping Old Halesonians (29-7) respectively. The result sees Hereford slip to nine points off the top.
Hereford host Wolverhampton this coming weekend while Worcester travel to local rivals Droitwich looking to get back to winning ways.
It will be an all-Scimitar clash this Saturday in the Indigo Group Welsh Premiership, with Pontypridd hosting Ebbw Vale at Sardis Road, while Llandovery will look to close the four-point gap between them and league-leaders Cardiff as they travel to Swansea.
