Ebbw edge Ponty in late drama
Just three of our teams were in action at the weekend as the cold weather postponed many fixtures across the leagues in England and Wales.
Saturday saw a battle of the Scimitar teams with Pontypridd hosting Ebbw Vale in the Indigo Group Welsh Premiership. Despite being 17-10 down at the break, Ponty fought back to lead 22-17 but a late Keiran Meek penalty saw the visitors come away narrow 23-22 winners.
That victory sees The Steelmen move to 4th in the table and hot on the heels of another Scimitar outfit, Llandovery, whose game at Swansea was postponed.
The Drovers sit 3rd with a crunch clash at home to 2nd-place Aberavon on Thursday night (kick-off 7.30pm). Llandovery are five points behind Cardiff at the top of the table with a game in hand, and just two points behind Aberavon with two games in hand.
On Saturday, Pontypridd will be looking for their third win of the season at RGC while Ebbw Vale host Merthyr.
In National 2 North, Rotherham Titans were forced to settle for a losing-bonus point as they went down 21-16 at Preston Grasshoppers, leaving them 6th in the table. They host Hull Ionians this Saturday.
In Regional 2 West Midlands, Hereford, Worcester and Evesham’s games were all postponed due to the icy conditions. This coming Saturday, Hereford travel to Crewe & Nantwich, Worcester host Stratford Upon Avon and Evesham host Droitwich.
In Counties 1 Midlands West (South) Barkers Butts host bottom-of-the-table Earlsdon as they themselves look to fight their way up towards the top half of the table.
In London & SE Division – Counties 2 Surrey, Chipstead RFC’s clash with Old Freemens was postponed and this week sees them travel to Old Haileyburians as they look to chase down the eight-point gap between themselves and Teddington at the top of the pile.
