Hereford and Chipstead press claims for top spot
Four of our teams were in action at the weekend with two teams picking up crucial victories in their hopes to push for top spot and potential promotion.
In London & SE Division – Counties 2 Surrey, Chipstead RFC propelled themselves to 2nd in the table and just six points off top spot as they leapfrogged Old Rutlishians by winning away at their rivals 18-12. This weekend will see them travel to Old Amplefordians for a chance to close the gap on Teddington at the top.
In Regional 2 West Midlands Hereford returned to winning ways with a 29-12 home win over Stratford upon Avon while Worcester were edged 16-12 in a tense home contest with local rivals Malvern. This weekend 7th-placed Worcester host Old Halesonians while Hereford travel to Whitchurch. It’s tightly contested at the top with just one point separating the top-four teams and Hereford sitting four points behind top spot in 5th place!
In National 2 North, Rotherham Titans were forced to settle for just a bonus point thanks to four tries but ultimately went down 39-26 at Otley. They slip to 6th in the table with a clash against 5th-placed Chester at Clifton Lane this Saturday.
There is Welsh Premiership Cup action for one of our teams this coming weekend as Ebbw Vale travel to RGC, looking to push for a place in the next stages of the competition.
