Llandovery and Ebbw march on

Our Welsh Premiership teams were in action on Boxing Day with two sides securing important wins.

Llandovery continued their pursuit of the top with a 29-0 home win over neighbours Carmarthen Quins while Ebbw Vale also maintained their hot run of form with a 22-18 home victory against Newport.

Pontypridd could have done Llandovery a favour by denying table-toppers Cardiff, but the league leaders were too strong, winning 39-13 at Cardiff Arms Park.

The result sees Cardiff sitting top with 48 points, Aberavon 2nd with 39, and Llandovery in 3rd with 38 points but two crucial games in hand. The Steelmen’s win over Newport sees them in 4th with 33 points as we near the halfway point of the 2022/23 campaign.

Ebbw Vale are back in action at Llanelli on Thursday 5 January (7.30pm) while it’s a big all-Scimitar battle on Saturday 7 January when Pontypridd host title-chasing Llandovery.

There is a break for the English leagues until Saturday 7 January, with Rotherham Titans back in action away at Blaydon in National 2 North.

In Regional 2 West Midlands, Hereford host bottom-of-the-table Droitwich while Worcester travel to Evesham and in Counties 1 Midlands West (South), Barkers Butts travel to Kidderminster RFC.

In London & SE Division – Counties 2 Surrey, Chipstead have a home clash with Law Society RFC as they look to close the gap on Teddington at the top.
