The Scimitar team were delighted to be approached by FA referee Martin Atkinson a few months back to make the cycling jerseys and bib shorts for this year’s Whistle Stop Tour.
This year, Martin and his team are cycling 1,700 miles to Russia, raising money for a number of causes. Starting at St George’s Park on Monday June 11th, the team were set to travel through a number of World Cup participating countries on their trip, including France, Belgium, Holland, Germany & Poland. 18 days later, the team are due to port in Kaliningrad, set to watch the World Cup final group fixture against Belgium.
Participants in the fundraising activity include Mile Tomlinson & Darren Clark of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, as well as Chris Sanders of 1st Class Events & Barry Phillipson of Smart Therapy Studios. That’s not all; throughout the trip, other riders will be taking part including fellow professional referee Jon Moss.
In the build up to the event, the Whistle Stop Tour entourage were sent on their way by Gareth Southgate, England national football manager. From a Scimitar perspective, we were delighted to see our premium custom cycling jersey and bib shorts featured across so many national outlets and publications.
What about the fundraising?
As of Wednesday 13th May, the 2018 Whistle Stop Tour has raised 86% of it’s target – that’s just over £52,000 from a target of £60,000! The ride is dedicated to raising money for a number of charities, with all funds split directly between the St David’s Hospice Care Newport, University Hospitals (Coventry & Warwickshire) Charity, Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation and The Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
Working with a number of these charities outside of the challenge, it’s exciting to see such a positive campaign raising money for so many good causes in the run-up to the World Cup, and what is bound to be a pivotal game for England!
Now it’s time to throw a couple of links your way.
