Zimbabwe Cheetahs: 2024 Rugby Africa 7s

There was plenty of rugby action last week as Zimbabwe Cheetahs were back in action in the 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s in Mauritius!

The competition will earn the top two ranked teams qualification to the Challenger Series 2025 while South Africa and Kenya are not eligible due to them already competing in the World SVNS Series.

The Cheetahs have so far been mostly successful in the tournament with round 1 taking place last week between the 29th and 30th of June. The Cheetahs found themselves in Pool C amongst South Africa, Zambia, and Algeria on day 1 to go on and face both Burkina Faso and Kenya the day after.

So with this in mind, let’s take a look at how they got on!

Results so far:

Round 1, Day 1:

Algeria 0 – 52 Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe 10 – 19 South Africa

Zimbabwe 29 – 12 Zambia

Day 2:

Burkina Faso 24 – 21 Zimbabwe

Kenya 19 – 28 Zimbabwe

With the Cheetahs walking away with three out of a potential five victories it leaves them ranked fifth overall as Uganda took gold in the first leg finals after beating Madagascar.

Zimbabwe will now look to regroup and get ready to go again for a big round 2 between the 6th and 7th of July as they search to get the job done and receive Challenger Series 2025 qualification.

Ahead of round 2 Cheetahs find themselves again in Pool C as they will this time face Nigeria, South Africa, and home country Mauritius. The team is optimistic and determined to improve their standing with fans eagerly anticipating another thrilling weekend of rugby action as the Cheetahs aim to showcase their quality and resilience on the field.
